Abstract

Este artigo analisa a nomeação toponímica em Língua Geral Amazônica (LGA) no município de Bragança/PA, compreendendo-a como prática simbólica que articula memória linguística, identidade cultural e processos históricos de formação da nacionalidade brasileira. Partindo do pressuposto de que o ato de nomear ultrapassa a função referencial e constitui gesto ideológico do sujeito falante, investiga-se de que modo os topônimos de origem Tupinambá, preservados na paisagem linguística bragantina, materializam a permanência de sentidos autóctones e o diálogo entre o português e a LGA. O corpus é composto por 91 topônimos registrados na dissertação de Araújo (2019), dos quais cinco, representativos dos distritos do município, foram selecionados para análise qualitativa. A investigação fundamenta-se nas concepções de nomeação como ato linguístico e simbólico (Benveniste, 1989; Coseriu, 1982), articula-se à teoria da motivação toponímica (Dick, 1980) e apoia-se na perspectiva funcional-discursiva da linguagem (Travaglia, 2002; Neves, 2018), a fim de compreender a relação entre formas lexicais, contexto sociocultural e projeção identitária. Metodologicamente, a análise articula descrição morfológica e semântica dos topônimos aos aspectos discursivos que orientam suas escolhas, considerando os processos de hibridização lexical, ressemantização e permanência histórica da LGA na Amazônia paraense. Os resultados indicam que os topônimos nheengatu não apenas designam espaços físicos, mas também conservam marcas de territorialidade indígena, configurando-se como signos de memória coletiva. Observa-se, ainda, que a incorporação de elementos da LGA dialoga com o ideário nacionalista romântico oitocentista, que valorizou o indígena como símbolo de autenticidade cultural. Assim, a nomeação toponímica em LGA opera como dispositivo identitário que reinscreve, no português amazônico, vozes e sentidos originários. Conclui-se que a toponímia bragantina paraense de base LGA representa importante testemunho da história linguística brasileira e constitui campo fértil para compreender a relação entre língua, memória e identidade na formação simbólica da nação.
