Bahasa Indonesia: Sebagai tanaman pangan strategis, jagung (Zea mays L.) menyediakan karbohidrat, pakan ternak, dan membantu memastikan pasokan pangan nasional. Hama seperti Spodoptera frugiperda, yang lebih dikenal sebagai ulat tentara jagung, menimbulkan ancaman serius bagi ladang jagung dan dapat menurunkan hasil panen secara drastis. Pestisida kimia umumnya digunakan oleh petani untuk mengendalikan hama ini, tetapi penggunaannya yang berlebihan dapat membahayakan manusia dan lingkungan. Memeriksa efek ekstrak bawang putih, pestisida botani, pada perilaku makan dan tingkat kematian larva S. frugiperda adalah tujuan utama dari penelitian ini. Dari Januari hingga April 2024, para peneliti di Laboratorium Hama dan Penyakit Tanaman Pusat Perlindungan Tanaman Pangan NTB memantau tanaman yang diteliti. Dengan lima perlakuan dan tiga kali ulangan, penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL). Rentang Varians digunakan untuk mengevaluasi data pada tingkat 5%. Pengujian selanjutnya dilakukan dengan menggunakan BNT (Smallest Real Difference) pada tingkat signifikansi 5% apabila terlihat perbedaan perlakuan yang signifikan. Dengan tingkat kematian maksimum sebesar 53,33 persen pada dosis 80 g/100 ml, hasil menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak bawang putih efektif meningkatkan kematian larva. Ekstrak juga berpengaruh terhadap penghambatan makan; perlakuan dengan konsentrasi tertinggi menghasilkan aktivitas makan paling sedikit dan penghambatan paling besar.
This study addresses a critically important issue in agricultural pest management, focusing on *Spodoptera frugiperda*, a major polyphagous pest that significantly threatens corn production. The exploration of botanical pesticides, specifically garlic extract, as an alternative to synthetic chemical pesticides is highly relevant and aligns with global calls for more sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices. The research clearly states its objective to evaluate the impact of garlic extract on both larval mortality and feeding behavior, offering a promising eco-friendly approach to pest control. The methodology employed, utilizing a Completely Randomized Design with five treatments and three replications, appears sound for a laboratory-based assessment. The statistical analysis involving ANOVA and subsequent BNT testing, where applicable, provides a robust framework for interpreting the experimental results. The key findings are particularly noteworthy: garlic extract effectively increased larval mortality, reaching a maximum of 53.33% at a concentration of 80 g/100 ml. Equally significant is the observed feeding inhibition, where higher extract concentrations led to reduced feeding activity, suggesting a dual mechanism of action that could contribute substantially to pest suppression. Overall, this research provides compelling evidence for the efficacy of garlic extract as a biopesticide against *S. frugiperda*, offering a valuable contribution to integrated pest management strategies. The clear demonstration of both mortality and antifeedant effects strengthens the practical implications of this work. While the abstract presents strong initial findings, future investigations could benefit from exploring the specific active compounds responsible for these effects, assessing the extract's persistence and efficacy under varied field conditions, and conducting dose-response analyses to optimize application rates. This study lays a strong foundation for developing more sustainable and environmentally benign methods for protecting corn crops from this destructive pest.
