This paper investigates the influence of varying concentrations of Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose (Na.CMC) on the stability of a rosella extract gel, intended for anti-aging applications due to the extract's antioxidant properties. The topic is highly relevant, addressing the growing demand for natural product-based pharmaceuticals and the critical need to ensure their stability in topical formulations. By focusing on a key gelling agent like Na.CMC, the study aims to provide insights into optimizing the physical and chemical characteristics of such preparations, which is essential for product efficacy and shelf-life. The methodology described involves formulating gels with three different Na.CMC concentrations (2.5%, 5%, 7.5%) and subjecting them to a cycling test to assess stability. A comprehensive range of parameters including organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesiveness, viscosity, and syneresis were evaluated. While the approach to stability testing using a cycling method and multiple parameters is appropriate, the abstract presents a significant and confusing contradiction in its reported results and conclusion. It states that all three formulations (I, II, and III) met specifications for most evaluations, and specifically that formulation III met specifications for all tested parameters. However, it then concludes with the perplexing statement that "statistically, stability was unstable before and after," despite earlier noting significant differences in pH, viscosity, spreadability, and adhesiveness due to Na.CMC concentration. In light of the conflicting information, the abstract, in its current form, struggles to deliver a clear and actionable conclusion regarding the influence of Na.CMC on gel stability. While the objective and experimental design show promise, the ambiguity in reporting findings, particularly the simultaneous claims of meeting specifications and being statistically unstable, severely undermines the study's impact. For a future revision or full manuscript, it is imperative to reconcile these contradictory statements, provide a more coherent interpretation of the statistical results, and clearly articulate the definitive role of Na.CMC concentration on the stability profile of the rosella extract gel. This would significantly enhance the clarity, scientific rigor, and overall contribution of the research.
