Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) refers to an initiative aimed at motivating communities to take an active role as agents of change in enhancing overall health quality. However, PHBS implementation in schools remains low. This study examines the impact of health education using quartet card games on PHBS behavior among students at SDN 010 Loa Janan Ilir. This study employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design using a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest approach. It included 74 fifth-grade students from SDN 010 Loa Janan Ilir, divided evenly into two groups—intervention and control—with 37 participants in each. Total sampling was used for participant selection. Univariate analysis revealed significant increases in knowledge (83.3%), attitudes (91.7%), and actions (58.3%) in the intervention group after the pretest and posttest, compared to increases in knowledge (8.3%), attitudes (8.3%), and actions (63.9%) in the control group. The bivariate analysis revealed statistically significant impacts on knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors within the intervention group (p-value = 0.000), indicating that quartet card games significantly influenced PHBS behavior implementation. The use of the quartet card game positively impacted the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of students regarding hygiene and health-oriented lifestyles at elementary school in Samarinda.
This study, titled 'Penerapan Kartu Kuartet sebagai Media Pembelajaran Perilaku Hidup Bersih Siswa Sekolah Dasar di Samarinda,' addresses the critical issue of low Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) implementation in elementary schools. The paper effectively highlights the potential of an engaging educational medium—quartet card games—to improve health outcomes among students. The research employs a robust quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest approach, which is commendable for its ability to assess causal impact. The stated objective to examine the impact of health education using quartet card games on PHBS behavior is clearly met, demonstrating significant improvements in the intervention group. The findings present compelling evidence for the efficacy of the quartet card game intervention. Univariate analysis shows substantial increases in knowledge (83.3%) and attitudes (91.7%) within the intervention group after the intervention, contrasting sharply with the minimal gains in the control group (8.3% for both knowledge and attitudes). Bivariate analysis further confirms a statistically significant impact on knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors within the intervention group (p-value = 0.000). However, a minor point requiring clarification from the abstract is the reported increase in actions for the control group (63.9%), which appears higher than the intervention group (58.3%). While the overall conclusion emphasizes the positive impact of quartet cards on PHBS behavior, a deeper explanation or contextualization of this specific 'actions' metric in the full paper would strengthen the clarity of the behavior-related findings. Overall, this study makes a valuable contribution by validating quartet cards as an effective and engaging pedagogical tool for promoting PHBS among elementary school students. The positive impact on students' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors underscores the potential for widespread adoption of such interactive learning methods in health education. The research provides a strong foundation for future studies, which could explore the long-term sustainability of these behavioral changes, replicate the intervention in diverse school settings, and delve deeper into the nuanced behavioral outcomes. This paper is highly relevant for educators and public health practitioners seeking innovative strategies to foster healthier habits in young populations.
