Abstract

Este artigo aborda a atuação de Sérgio Buarque de Holanda como crítico literário na imprensa carioca, entre as décadas de 1940 e 1950. A partir da análise de artigos publicados pelo autor, o estudo busca compreender como sua produção articulou elementos da crítica literária, da história e das ciências sociais, em um contexto marcado pelo processo de especialização dessas áreas de estudo, na formação de uma concepção própria sobre a atividade crítica. A pesquisa se baseia na leitura de uma ampla quantidade de artigos publicados nos suplementos literários, privilegiando uma abordagem que destaca os sentidos atribuídos à ideia de cientificidade no campo da crítica e os deslocamentos provocados pela emergência da sociologia como forma de conhecimento heurístico. Argumenta-se que a crítica literária funcionou como espaço privilegiado de interlocução entre saberes, articulada à emergência das ciências sociais como linguagem própria no cenário intelectual. O artigo contribui, assim, para uma reflexão sobre os modos de inserção da sociologia na esfera pública e os vínculos entre literatura, imprensa e o desenvolvimento do pensamento social brasileiro.
