Abstract

The appointment of journalists, especially in the field of legal coverage, is extremely urgent and has a wide- ranging impact on conveying information containing truth values, in order to realize a free and responsible press. The manifestation of this responsibility, however, is not accompanied by a system for the appointment of journalists, leading to the dissemination of information that triggers inaccuracies in news, resulting in legal claims, both criminal and civil. These claims continue to occur, and the number of journalists entangled in legal issues also continues to increase. All of this is caused by laxity, both in Law Number 40 of 1999 and in the Press Council Regulations, which do not regulate the standards for the appointment of the journalistic profession. This laxity has triggered the idea of creating a system for the appointment of legal journalists based on the affirmation of a profession that meets professional standards through an ideal model, the regulation of which lies within a legal framework. ___ References Books with an author: Gant, S. Review

This paper, "Ideal Model in Law: Journalists and Application in Press Reporting," tackles a highly pertinent and urgent issue concerning the professional standards and legal accountability of journalists, particularly in the realm of legal coverage. The authors effectively highlight a critical societal need for a press that conveys truthful information while operating freely and responsibly. A central concern articulated is the escalating number of legal claims—both criminal and civil—against journalists, often stemming from reporting inaccuracies. This problematic trend is directly attributed by the authors to a perceived "laxity" in current Indonesian legal frameworks, specifically Law Number 40 of 1999 and Press Council Regulations, which reportedly lack adequate standards for professional appointment. To address these systemic shortcomings and the growing legal entanglements of journalists, the abstract proposes the development of an "ideal model" for the appointment of legal journalists. This model is conceptualized as a system that would affirm the journalistic profession through adherence to clearly defined professional standards, all regulated within a comprehensive legal framework. While the proposed solution clearly targets a significant gap in current practice, the abstract itself offers limited detail on the specific attributes or components of this "ideal model." Further elucidation of the theoretical foundation, methodological approach, and the precise mechanisms envisioned for this model would be essential to fully grasp its potential efficacy and implications. The paper's strength lies in its timely identification of a critical challenge at the nexus of journalistic practice, legal frameworks, and public trust. The increasing instances of legal disputes involving journalists underscore the necessity for re-evaluating professional standards and regulatory mechanisms. However, a more comprehensive exploration within the full paper should detail the specific criteria, implementation mechanisms, and potential impacts of the "ideal model" on existing press freedoms. While the abstract effectively outlines the problem and a general direction for a solution, a deeper dive into the model's structural design, its practical implications, and the potential hurdles for its implementation would significantly enhance the paper's contribution to both legal and media scholarship.
