Introduction

«Я» ЯК ОСОБИСТІСТЬ ТА ІНДИВІДУАЛЬНІСТЬ. Дослідження розрізняє концепти «Я», особистість, індивідуальність та їх мовні репрезентації. Прояснює тонкі відмінності, важливі для лінгвістичних та міждисциплінарних студій.

Abstract

Дослідження визначає понятійні складові концептів PERSONALITY/ОСОБИСТІСТЬ, PERSON/ОСОБА, PERSONA/ПЕРСОНА, INDIVIDUALITY/ІНДИВІДУАЛЬНІСТЬ, INDIVIDUAL/ІНДИВІД, встановлює спільні і відмінні характеристики. Дані концепти виступають об’єктом дослідження, а відповідні їм лексеми - personality, person, persona, individuality, individual - розглядаються як їх мовні репрезентації. Незважаючи на те, що лексеми розглядаються як синоніми в тлумачних словниках, вони демонструють тонкі відмінності, які дослідження прагне прояснити. Розуміння цих відмінностей має суттєве значення в лінгвістичних та міждисциплінарних дослідженнях, включаючи когнітивну лінгвістику, філософію мови, зокрема для чіткішої інтерпретації конструктів, пов’язаних з ідентичністю в дискурсі. Аналіз дослідження ґрунтується на лексикографічних джерелах і фрагментах дискурсу, представлених в електронних ресурсах, зокрема у Британському національному корпусі. У дослідженні використовуються методи етимологічного та компонентного аналізу для виявлення взаємозв’язків між поняттями. Згідно з результатами дослідження, концепт ІНДИВІДУАЛЬНІСТЬ/INDIVIDUALITY частково взаємокорелює з концептами ОСОБИСТІСТЬ/PERSONALITY, ОСОБА/PERSON та ІНДИВІД/INDIVIDUAL. Наприклад, перелік значень лексеми individuality охоплює “individual”, “personality”, “person”, відображаючи таким чином концептуальні взаємозв’язки. В дослідженні стверджується, що самореалізація починається з неподільної природи індивіда, з якої виникає Самість або «Я». З часом Самість набуває особистості через поведінку / діяльність, що виражається через різні персони / маски. Таким чином, індивідуальність представляє невід’ємне існування, тоді як особистість проявляється через поведінку та соціальні ролі. Уточнюючи відмінності між цими поняттями, дослідження сприяє кращому розумінню їхніх мовних і концептуальних зв’язків.

This study undertakes a meticulous investigation into the intertwined yet distinct concepts of PERSONALITY, PERSON, PERSONA, INDIVIDUALITY, and INDIVIDUAL, as well as their linguistic representations. By acknowledging that these terms, despite often being treated as synonyms in dictionaries, possess subtle but significant differences, the research addresses a critical gap in linguistic and interdisciplinary scholarship. The explicit aim to clarify these distinctions holds considerable value, particularly for cognitive linguistics, philosophy of language, and the nuanced interpretation of identity constructs within discourse. The chosen methodology, relying on lexicographical sources, etymological and component analysis, alongside empirical data from the British National Corpus, provides a robust framework for disentangling these complex semantic relationships. The paper successfully elucidates the conceptual interplay, demonstrating how, for instance, INDIVIDUALITY partially correlates with PERSONALITY, PERSON, and INDIVIDUAL, with the lexical meanings of 'individuality' encompassing aspects of these related terms. A particularly insightful contribution is the proposed developmental trajectory of the self: beginning with the indivisible nature of the individual from which the Self or "Я" emerges, and subsequently acquiring personality through behavior and activities expressed via various personas. This distinction is crucial, positing individuality as an inherent, fundamental existence, while personality is presented as a manifestation through behavior, social roles, and interactions. This detailed analysis, supported by both theoretical and empirical linguistic tools, significantly refines our understanding of how these core identity concepts are structured and expressed. Overall, this research offers a valuable contribution to the study of semantics and the philosophy of language, particularly in the realm of identity. By rigorously clarifying the often conflated meanings of these fundamental concepts, the study provides a clearer conceptual toolkit for researchers across various disciplines. While the reliance on the British National Corpus is a sound choice for English, future research could potentially expand this analysis to other languages or cross-cultural contexts to explore universal versus culture-specific aspects of these distinctions. Nevertheless, the paper's meticulous analysis and clear articulation of its findings make it a highly commendable work that advances our comprehension of the linguistic and conceptual underpinnings of human identity.
