Abstract

Face mist is a cosmetic preparation used to whiten and moisturize facial skin. This study aimed to formulate and evaluate a nanoemulsion face mist combining tomato extract (Solanum lycopersicum L.) and aloe vera juice (Aloe vera L.) as a natural moisturizer. The nanoemulsion was prepared by mixing oil and water phases using a magnetic stirrer. Evaluations included organoleptic test, pH, homogeneity, viscosity, spray pattern, drying time, stability, skin hydration, particle size, and hedonic test. The best stability was found in Formula 3, containing 0.75% tomato extract and 4.75% aloe vera. This formula showed a particle size of 16.6 nm, a polydispersity index of 0.331, and the highest skin moisture increase was observed in Formula 2 at 51.33% after 21 days. The results suggest that ripe tomato extract and aloe vera can be successfully formulated into a nanoemulsion face mist as a facial moisturizer. Penelitian ini bertujuan memformulasikan dan mengevaluasi sediaan nanoemulsi face mist kombinasi ekstrak tomat (Solanum lycopersicum L.) dan sari lidah buaya (Aloe Vera L.) sebagai pelembab alami. Nanoemulsi dilakukan dengan mencampurkan fase minyak dan fase air menggunakan magnetic stirrer. Evaluasi yang dilakukan seperti uji organoleptik, pengukuran pH, pemeriksaan homogenitas, viskositas, serta uji stabilitas, kelembapan kulit dan ukuran partikel. Formulasi terbaik dilihat pada uji stabilitas diperoleh pada Formula 3 dengan komposisi 0,75% ekstrak tomat dan 4,75% sari lidah buaya. Sediaan ini menunjukkan ukuran partikel 16,6nm, indeks polidispersitas 0,331, serta perubahan kelembaban kulit paling tinggi pada formula 2 sebesar 51,33% setelah penggunaan 21 hari. Hasil penelitian memberikan bahwa ekstrak tomat matang dan lidah buaya dapat diformulasikan ke dalam sediaan nanoemulsi face mist sebagai produk pelembap wajah. The aim to formulate and evaluate such a product for facial moisturization is clearly stated and addresses a common dermatological need, aligning well with current trends in cosmeceutical development. The authors employed a standard approach for nanoemulsion preparation, followed by a comprehensive set of evaluations including organoleptic properties, pH, homogeneity, viscosity, spray pattern, drying time, stability, particle size, and crucially, skin hydration and hedonic tests. Key findings indicate the successful formation of a nanoemulsion, with Formula 3 demonstrating favorable stability and desirable particle characteristics (16.6 nm, PDI of 0.331). Significantly, the study demonstrated a substantial increase in skin moisture, with Formula 2 achieving an impressive 51.33% increase after 21 days of use, underscoring the moisturizing potential of the combined extracts. Overall, this study makes a solid contribution to the field of natural cosmetic formulations. The successful development of a stable nanoemulsion incorporating both tomato extract and aloe vera, coupled with demonstrable moisturizing effects, highlights the potential of these botanical ingredients. While the abstract could benefit from a clearer justification for designating Formula 3 as "best stability" when Formula 2 showed superior hydration efficacy—a more detailed discussion on the selection criteria for the "best formulation" would enhance clarity—the research successfully establishes a foundation for developing effective and natural facial moisturizers. Future work could explore long-term stability under diverse environmental conditions, conduct in-depth consumer perception studies, and perform comparative efficacy trials against established commercial products to fully contextualize its market potential.
