This study presents a timely and crucial spatial analysis of heat spots in Oeiras (PI) between 2014 and 2024, identifying these occurrences as a recurrent annual challenge. The authors effectively set the stage by arguing for a clear seasonality, with peaks expected during the hotter, drier months from August to November, and crucially, hypothesizing a greater intensity within urban and peri-urban areas compared to rural zones. The abstract succinctly establishes the relevance of this research, linking heat spots to environmental impacts, particularly those affecting urban landscapes. Methodologically, the paper relies on a robust theoretical framework concerning heat spots, fires, and their environmental repercussions, especially within urban contexts. The use of established data from the Banco de Dados de Queimadas (BDQueimadas – INPE) for the specified temporal span provides a credible empirical foundation, further strengthened by the application of QGIS for spatial analysis. The preliminary results are compelling, revealing a total of 1,026 recorded heat spots over the decade. Of particular note is the identification of 2021, 2023, and 2024 as years with exceptionally high occurrences, registering 211, 151, and 145 spots respectively, underscoring a concerning recent intensification of the phenomenon. The findings presented, particularly the high number of occurrences and their increase in recent years, strongly underscore the urgent need for intervention. The authors appropriately conclude by emphasizing the necessity of integrated actions involving both public authorities and organized civil society. Their recommendations for minimizing future occurrences are well-placed, advocating for critical environmental education and awareness campaigns targeting the Oeiras population. This research thus serves as an important call to action, providing valuable data and strategic directions for addressing a significant environmental concern.
