Abstract

Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan scoping review berdasarkan panduan PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews), dengan penilaian kualitas artikel menggunakan The Joanna Briggs Institute Checklist.

Review

This scoping review addresses a highly relevant topic: the effectiveness of Kinesio taping (KT) for knee osteoarthritis (OA), a prevalent condition causing significant pain and functional limitations in the elderly. The chosen methodology, a scoping review adhering to PRISMA-ScR guidelines and utilizing The Joanna Briggs Institute Checklist for quality appraisal, is appropriate for systematically mapping the existing scientific evidence. The review's primary aim to analyze the scientific evidence regarding KT's efficacy in pain reduction and functional improvement for knee OA patients is well-articulated and timely, given the increasing interest in non-invasive physiotherapy interventions. From an initial pool of 120 articles, the authors meticulously identified and analyzed five studies published between 2015 and 2022, collectively involving over 350 participants from diverse international settings. The findings suggest a promising trend, with most included studies indicating that KT can indeed reduce pain and enhance knee function. Crucially, the abstract highlights that these benefits are often observed when KT is applied in conjunction with other physiotherapeutic modalities, such as muscle strengthening exercises or manual therapy. However, the review also candidly acknowledges the variability in results across the studies, which points to heterogeneity in methodologies or patient populations, thus limiting the ability to draw definitive, universal conclusions. Overall, this scoping review provides a valuable snapshot of the current landscape of evidence regarding Kinesio taping for knee osteoarthritis. It successfully identifies the potential role of KT as a supplementary intervention in managing this condition, while simultaneously highlighting the substantial gaps in the literature. The call for further research with more homogeneous designs and quantitative analysis is a critical recommendation, essential for moving beyond preliminary findings and establishing a clearer understanding of KT's specific mechanisms and optimal application. This review serves as an important resource for clinicians seeking evidence-informed non-invasive treatment options and for researchers charting future studies in this complex area of musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
