Abstract

Review

The study, "Dampak Citizen Journalism Terhadap Kepercayaan Publik Pada Media Bicaraindonesia.Net," offers a timely investigation into the intricate relationship between citizen journalism and public trust in the context of the online media platform Bicaraindonesia.net. Grounded in Pierre Levy's New Media theory, the research adeptly frames its analysis within the broader discourse of digital media evolution and the democratization of information through public participation. Employing a qualitative, descriptive methodology that integrates observation and in-depth interviews with both media stakeholders and news consumers, the study reveals a nuanced understanding of how trust is cultivated and maintained in the digital age. A key strength of this research lies in its empirical demonstration of selective public trust, particularly among students, towards citizen journalism. The findings meticulously detail the conditions under which trust is conferred: the presence of visual evidence, clear data, and credible sources. This highlights a crucial public demand for verifiable information, even within the fast-paced environment of user-generated content. The study commendably articulates the perceived advantages of citizen journalism, such as its speed, actuality, and direct reporting from event locations. Furthermore, it effectively showcases Bicaraindonesia.net's proactive strategies in building public trust through transparency, a commitment to verifiable sources, and a conscious effort to avoid sensationalism, thereby reinforcing the platform's legitimacy. While providing significant insights, the study could potentially strengthen its broader applicability by expanding the definition and scope of the "public" beyond primarily "mahasiswa" (students), as indicated in the abstract. A more diverse demographic representation of news consumers would offer a more comprehensive and generalizable understanding of public trust in citizen journalism. Despite this, the research makes a valuable contribution to understanding the dynamics of media credibility in the digital era, particularly within the Indonesian context. It effectively underscores the essential role of verification and transparency in fostering trust, offering important implications for both media platforms and citizen journalists striving to maintain legitimacy and combat misinformation in an evolving media landscape.
