This research presents an interesting and timely analysis of language styles, grounding sociolinguistic theory in the accessible context of a prominent public figure like Taylor Swift. The study clearly articulates its objectives: to identify and quantify language styles used in a specific speech, determine the most dominant style, and ascertain the social factors influencing these choices, drawing upon Janet Holmes's (2013) framework. The chosen methodology, a qualitative content analysis, is well-suited for a detailed linguistic examination of spoken discourse, promising valuable insights into pragmatic language use in a contemporary setting. The abstract effectively summarizes the core findings, which indicate a prevalence of the consultative style, followed by casual, formal, and intimate styles, with no instances of frozen style. This quantitative breakdown provides a clear picture of Swift's stylistic repertoire in the specified context. Crucially, the research identifies participant, setting, topic, and function as key social factors shaping these stylistic decisions, thereby directly addressing one of its primary objectives. The explicit linkage of observed linguistic choices to established sociolinguistic theory strengthens the study's analytical foundation. The concluding remarks highlight the broader implications of the findings, suggesting that an understanding of language style is vital for effective communication and has direct applicability in the field of education. This practical outlook adds significant value, moving beyond mere description to propose how these insights can be leveraged to enhance communication skills. While the abstract strongly asserts this educational utility, the full paper would benefit from elaborating on specific ways these findings could be integrated into pedagogical practices or communication training, solidifying its contribution to both linguistic scholarship and practical application.
