This essay offers a timely and intellectually ambitious endeavor to bridge the significant conceptual gap between Carl Rogers' person-centered theory and the contemporary understanding of psychological trauma. The authors insightfully argue that despite the absence of direct discourse on trauma in Rogers' original clinical work, his foundational principles provide a robust theoretical substrate for developing a nuanced person-centered perspective. This initial premise sets a compelling stage for an exploration that promises to enrich both trauma theory and the application of humanistic psychology, challenging existing paradigms. The paper's methodological approach is commendably structured, systematically building its argument through distinct yet interconnected phases. It begins by grounding the discussion in a general overview of psychological trauma from a biomedical psychopathology perspective, establishing a common understanding. This is then skillfully articulated with pertinent post-Rogerian humanistic-experiential studies, demonstrating an awareness of subsequent theoretical developments within the broader humanistic field. The core contribution lies in the subsequent re-interpretation of these traumatic phenomena, as described in the preceding sections, through the unique lens of Rogers' personality theory, offering a fresh explanatory model. The concluded expectation that this proposed explanatory model will serve as a foundational basis for future empirical and clinical research is well-justified. By offering a Rogerian framework for comprehending and intervening in trauma, the work holds significant promise for expanding the reach and relevance of person-centered therapy into an area where its contributions are often underappreciated. This theoretical contribution is not merely an academic exercise but a valuable step towards fostering a more holistic, client-centered approach to trauma care, encouraging further investigation into its practical applications.
