Introduction

Toimistotyöntekijä automaation kynnyksellä – tekstinkäsittelijöiden työelämäarjen profiilit digitalisoidussa kokoaikaisessa kotietätyössä. Tutkimus julkisen sektorin tekstinkäsittelijöiden kotietätyöstä ennen automaatiota. Selvitä, miten työntekijät kokevat digitaalisen etätyön arjen ja sopeuttavat sen elämäänsä.

Abstract

Tässä artikkelissa tarkastelemme julkisen sektorin toimistotyötä tekevien kotietätyöntekijöiden arkielämää ”hetkellä ennen automaatiota”. Kysymme, mitä työn automaatiota edeltävä vaihe, mahdollisuus työskennellä digivälitteisesti kokoaikaisessa kotietätyössä, tarkoittaa työntekijöiden omasta näkökulmasta heidän elämänkokonaisuudessaan? Millaisista tilanteista käsin ja millaisilla edellytyksillä työntekijät valmistautuvat nykyisen työn loppumiseen? Tutkimuksen kontekstina on etätyössä tehtävä perinteisesti toimistotyyppinen tekstinkäsittelytyö osana terveydenhuollon palveluprosessia. Tutkimusmenetelmänä on laadullinen, etnografiaa soveltava haastattelututkimus. Teoriataustana hyödynnetään arkielämän tutkimusta sosiologian ja kotitaloustieteen tutkimustraditiossa sekä organisaation käsikirjoittajuuden käsitettä. Tutkimus tuotti neljä erilaista tapaa käsikirjoittaa digitalisoidun kotietätyön arkea ja sovittaa työ osaksi henkilön omaa elämänkokonaisuutta ja hyvinvointia. Nimesimme havaitsemamme kotietätyön arkiprofiilit seuraavasti: Keskittyjä, Sopeuttaja, Harrastaja ja Yrittäjä-palkansaaja. Tulokset vahvistavat tulkintaa kodeissa elettävän arjen yhteiskunnallisuudesta. Mikrotasoisen arjen näkökulmasta etätyö kotona ei ole pakopaikka tai toteutuva toiveuni, vaan se edustaa työelämän monisäikeistä murroksellisuutta kaikkine jännitteineen.

This nuanced perspective underscores the societal nature of everyday life within homes, revealing how micro-level experiences reflect the broader disruptiveness inherent in the current evolution of work. The paper makes a valuable contribution to the literature on the future of work, automation, and telework by offering an intimate glimpse into employees' lived experiences during a transitional phase. Its theoretical grounding in everyday life research and the concept of organizational scriptwriting provides a robust framework for interpreting these experiences. While the study is context-specific, its findings offer important insights for organizations, policymakers, and individual workers navigating similar transitions globally. Future research could build upon these profiles to explore longitudinal changes as automation progresses or compare these experiences across different sectors or national contexts. Overall, this paper provides a timely and insightful analysis, effectively capturing the complexities and human dimensions of work on the precipice of significant technological transformation.
