Review

This paper presents a focused inquiry into the welfare levels of rice farmer communities in Sukarami Village, Bengkulu Tengah, a topic of significant relevance given the centrality of agriculture to many rural Indonesian economies. The research clearly articulates its objective: to determine the welfare status using established indicators. The methodology is straightforward and appropriate for the stated goal, employing a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection via observation, interviews, and documentation from a sample of 20 household heads. The explicit use of BKKBN indicators for welfare assessment provides a standardized framework, which is a strength in evaluating the socio-economic conditions of the target group. The findings indicate a predominantly positive welfare landscape within the studied community. A substantial majority (55%) of the households fall into the "Keluarga Sejahtera III" category, followed by "Sejahtera II" (25%) and "Sejahtera I" (20%). Notably, the absence of "Pra-Sejahtera" and "Sejahtera III Plus" households suggests a clustering within the mid-to-high welfare range as defined by BKKBN, with "Keluarga Sejahtera III" representing families capable of fulfilling both basic (indicators 1-14) and developmental needs. While these results offer a snapshot of welfare distribution, the abstract could briefly elaborate on the practical implications of a community being predominantly "Sejahtera III" – does this signify economic stability, resilience, or specific development successes within the agricultural sector? Acknowledging the relatively small sample size (20 households) would also add to the transparency of the research. Overall, this research offers valuable preliminary insights into the welfare dynamics of a specific rice farming community. The findings contribute to a local understanding of socio-economic conditions, which can inform regional development planning and agricultural policies aimed at sustaining or improving livelihoods. For future research, it would be beneficial to explore the underlying factors contributing to these observed welfare levels, such as agricultural practices, market access, governmental support, or specific socio-cultural dynamics. Comparative studies with other farming communities or regions could also provide broader context and highlight unique characteristics of Sukarami Village's farmers.
