Mar. Marguerite Duras. A Coisa (das Ding). AbstractFirstly, the work seeks to establish a field of dialogue between psychoanalysis and literature, particularly regarding Marguerite Duras’ writing. We aim to reflect on the particularities of female Oedipus, highlighting a more remote period prior to Oedipus himself, the girl's pre-Oedipal relationship with her mother. Thus, we will discuss the issue of the mother and daughter relationship according to Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan to delve into the theme of incest, which presents itself as the core of the subject's desiring life. The imperious insistence of the sea in the work of Marguerite Duras is notable, evoking this devastating enjoyment, from which the Thing (das Ding) insinuates itself, namely the incestuous object. In addition to a phallic claim, the mother-daughter relationship - in which the loving partner becomes an heir - makes the woman come across this limitless, incestuous enjoyment, which finds in the sea an extraordinary representation of this absolute. Keywords: Female Oedipus. Sea. Marguerite Duras. The Thing (das Ding).
This paper proposes an intriguing and theoretically ambitious exploration at the intersection of psychoanalysis and literature, focusing on the complex oeuvre of Marguerite Duras. The title itself, evoking Duras's evocative language, immediately sets a compelling tone for a study that promises a deep dive into the oceanic and the affective. By positing Duras's writing as a "dam" against "the Thing" (*das Ding*), the abstract outlines a fascinating hypothesis: that her textual creations serve to contain or channel the raw, pre-symbolic, and often incestuous energies central to the feminine psyche. The stated aim to illuminate the particularities of the female Oedipus and its pre-Oedipal antecedents, specifically the mother-daughter dyad, offers a vital contribution to ongoing discussions in both psychoanalytic theory and Durasian scholarship. The theoretical framework, drawing on Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan, suggests a rigorous engagement with foundational concepts to unpack the nuances of the mother-daughter relationship and its profound link to incest as the "nucleus of the subject's desiring life." The abstract effectively highlights the insistent motif of the sea in Duras's work, connecting it powerfully to a "devastating" and "limitless" enjoyment that verges on the incestuous. This connection between the symbolic vastness of the sea, the *das Ding* as the inaccessible incestuous object, and the primal mother-daughter bond is a strong conceptual anchor. The idea that a loving partner becomes an "heir" to this immense, unbounded enjoyment further enriches the discussion, suggesting a transgenerational and relational dimension to this primal dynamic. Overall, this work appears poised to offer a significant and nuanced reading of Marguerite Duras through a sophisticated psychoanalytic lens. The abstract promises a deep exploration of how Duras’s writing grapples with the uncontainable forces of desire and the primal, pre-Oedipal relationship, particularly in its incestuous dimensions. To fully realize its potential, the complete paper will need to meticulously elaborate on how Duras’s narrative strategies and linguistic choices concretely function as this "barrage" against *das Ding*, and precisely how the "limitless, incestuous enjoyment" manifests within her texts. This promises to be a compelling and insightful contribution to both literary criticism and the application of psychoanalytic theory.
