Peningkatan kesadaran tentang kebersihan lingkungan melalui pengelolahan sampah berbasis edukasi di kalangan mahasiswa. Tingkatkan kesadaran kebersihan lingkungan & pengelolaan sampah di kalangan mahasiswa Universitas Sunan Giri melalui program edukasi partisipatif. Hasilnya, perubahan perilaku positif & budaya kebersihan kampus.
This activity aims to raise public awareness through an education-based waste management program implemented at Sunan Giri University of Surabaya as an effort to foster environmental awareness within the campus community. The main problem identified was the low level of knowledge and concern regarding proper waste sorting, management, and disposal, which resulted in waste accumulation, unpleasant odors, and potential flooding risks. This program employed the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, involving students and surrounding community members directly in observation, discussions, problem mapping, and the determination of priority actions. Practical activities included sorting organic and inorganic waste, cleaning campus areas, removing wild grass, providing waste management education, and practicing simple recycling techniques. The results indicated an increase in participants’ understanding as well as positive behavioral changes, such as disposing of waste properly, implementing waste sorting, and actively participating in routine cleanliness activities. Overall, this program proved effective in building a culture of cleanliness, strengthening social responsibility, and reinforcing the notion that campus cleanliness is an essential part of shared ecological awareness. Furthermore, this activity facilitated collaboration between students and the surrounding community, thereby fostering harmonious social relations.
This paper, titled "Peningkatan Kesadaran tentang Kebersihan Lingkungan melalui Pengelolahan Sampah Berbasis Edukasi di Kalangan Mahasiswa," addresses a highly relevant and pressing issue: enhancing environmental awareness through education-based waste management, specifically within a university setting in Surabaya. The abstract clearly identifies a critical problem of low knowledge and concern regarding proper waste practices among the campus community, leading to tangible environmental issues. The adoption of Participatory Action Research (PAR) is a commendable methodological choice, aligning well with the interventionist and community-centric nature of the program, promising direct engagement and context-specific solutions to address the identified challenges. The program's strength lies in its comprehensive approach, integrating direct participation from students and the surrounding community in observation, discussions, problem mapping, and the determination of priority actions. The practical activities, including waste sorting, campus cleaning, removing wild grass, and providing both theoretical education and hands-on recycling practice, demonstrate a multi-faceted strategy to instill new habits and knowledge. The reported results are encouraging, indicating a clear increase in participants' understanding and observable positive behavioral changes, such as improved waste disposal, consistent sorting, and active participation in cleanliness initiatives, alongside the strengthening of social responsibility and harmonious community relations. While the abstract provides a compelling overview of the program's success, a full manuscript would benefit from a more detailed presentation of the methodologies used to assess the "increase in understanding" and "positive behavioral changes," perhaps through pre- and post-intervention quantitative data or a robust qualitative analysis of participant feedback. Furthermore, insights into the specific challenges encountered during implementation and strategies for ensuring the long-term sustainability and scalability of these positive changes would significantly enhance the study's contribution. Nevertheless, this initiative appears to be a highly effective and impactful model for environmental education and community engagement, offering valuable lessons for similar institutions striving to cultivate a greener and more responsible campus environment.
