Abstract

This community service activity was implemented at SDN 3 Tangkiling to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset among elementary school students by integrating financial literacy and exploring creative professions. The program emphasized enhancing students' comprehension of fundamental financial principles through socialization activities and rudimentary buying and selling simulations using play money. The “Mini Shop” activity was implemented to facilitate students' learning about the value of money, the distinction between needs and wants, and the importance of saving. This activity was designed using an active and contextual learning approach, which aligns with the characteristics of elementary school students and the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum, emphasizing character building, independence, and creativity. Additionally, the exploration of creative professions was undertaken through the implementation of role-playing and interactive discussions, thereby introducing a variety of occupations and cultivating an interest in entrepreneurship from an early age. The outcomes of the activity indicated that students exhibited increased enthusiasm and comprehension of fundamental financial concepts and demonstrated an interest in elementary entrepreneurial activities. It is anticipated that this program will evolve into an inspirational learning model for instilling financial literacy and entrepreneurial spirit at the elementary school level.

Review

This community service initiative at SDN 3 Tangkiling presents a highly relevant and well-conceived approach to cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset among elementary school students. The integration of financial literacy through practical activities like the "Mini Shop" and the exploration of creative professions via role-playing is particularly commendable. This dual strategy leverages active and contextual learning, which is ideally suited for this age group and aligns effectively with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum, emphasizing character building, independence, and creativity. The use of play money in simulations to teach fundamental financial concepts like needs, wants, and saving is a practical and engaging method. The methodology described in the abstract highlights a thoughtful design that prioritizes experiential learning. The "Mini Shop" activity, in particular, stands out as an excellent example of how complex financial ideas can be simplified and made tangible for young learners. By allowing students to actively participate in rudimentary buying and selling, the program effectively bridges theoretical knowledge with practical application. Similarly, the exploration of creative professions through interactive discussions and role-playing not only broadens students' horizons but also actively fosters an early interest in diverse career paths and entrepreneurial thinking. The reported outcomes of increased student enthusiasm and comprehension of fundamental financial concepts, alongside a demonstrated interest in entrepreneurial activities, are encouraging and suggest a positive initial impact. This program holds significant potential as an inspirational model for integrating financial literacy and fostering an entrepreneurial spirit at the elementary school level. For future reporting or scaling, it would be beneficial to consider more rigorous evaluation methods to quantify the learning outcomes and attitude shifts, ensuring the sustainability and broader applicability of this promising educational model.
