Abstract

Ao longo da história da ecologia, predições e modelos teóricos sobre mecanismos estruturadores dos padrões demográficos populacionais se intensificaram. Inicialmente, os modelos descreviam a trajetória de populações considerando unicamente parâmetros demográficos locais. Modelos posteriores demonstraram que a configuração do espaço e as taxas de dispersão são fatores determinantes para compreender padrões de distribuição e abundância. Consequentemente, modelos espacialmente explícitos vêm sendo desenvolvidos e aprimorados, sendo eles analíticos ou simulações computacionais. Como as espécies não se dispersam infinitamente, estudos tentaram desenvolver predições sobre o que determina o limite de distribuição geográfica e quais padrões de distribuição de abundância são esperados ao longo da distribuição geográficade uma espécie. Testes empíricos podem aprimorar a compreensão da dinâmica populacional (temporal e espacial) e validar as predições a respeito da distribuição geográficadas espécies.Palavras-chave: Abundância central.
