Review

This paper, "Moderation in the Use of Maqasid Syariah in the Development of the Islamic Economic System According to Asy-Syathibi," addresses a crucial intersection of Islamic jurisprudence and economics: the application of Maqasid Syariah with an emphasis on moderation. It articulates how the five fundamental objectives of Maqasid Syariah—protection of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and property—are pivotal for constructing an Islamic economic system geared towards fostering social justice and collective welfare. The study distinctively frames its analysis through the lens of Asy-Syathibi, whose scholarly contributions on balanced approaches are highlighted as central to integrating Shariah principles with modern economic imperatives. The research employs a qualitative methodology, specifically a literature review approach, to examine sources pertaining to moderation within Maqasid Syariah. A core assertion put forth is Asy-Syathibi's advocacy for a moderate stance that thoughtfully reconciles foundational Shariah principles with contemporary economic demands, ensuring the intrinsic essence of Maqasid remains intact. The findings strongly indicate that this balanced application of Maqasid Syariah is instrumental in cultivating an Islamic economic system that is both innovative and adaptable, capable of providing sustainable solutions to the challenges posed by globalization and rapid technological advancements in finance. Overall, the paper makes a pertinent contribution by demonstrating that a moderate and balanced approach significantly enhances the relevance and practical applicability of the Islamic economic system. It effectively argues that such an approach is vital for supporting innovation and sustainability within Islamic economics, enabling it to not only navigate modern complexities but also to contribute more broadly to societal welfare. This work underscores the inherent dynamism of Maqasid Syariah and its potential to render Islamic economic principles more impactful and accessible in an evolving global landscape.
