The author posits that the modern redefinition of food as a marker of social status and prestige has exacerbated critical issues such as food waste, hunger, malnutrition, and stunting, particularly within Indonesia. Employing editorial criticism on the eating narratives found in the Gospel of Mark, the study seeks to uncover foundational principles that can address these contemporary challenges. A significant strength of this research lies in its effective interdisciplinary approach, bridging biblical exegesis with pressing socio-economic concerns. By analyzing Mark's Gospel, the article concludes that eating is fundamentally linked to values of inclusivity and a readiness to share within the community of God's followers. This theological grounding is then offered as a powerful framework, conceptualizing eating as an opportunity to extend and share God's grace with all individuals. Such an interpretation provides fresh and much-needed perspectives for faith communities in Indonesia, empowering them to cultivate a more ethical stance towards food and to actively support the impoverished.
