Review

The article "LITERATURE REVIEW : TERAPI YOGA PADA PASIEN SKIZOFRENIA DENGAN GANGGUAN DEPRESI DAN HALUSINASI" addresses a highly pertinent area of mental health research, exploring adjunctive therapeutic approaches for a complex and chronic condition. Schizophrenia, particularly when compounded by depressive symptoms and hallucinations, presents significant challenges in patient management, making the investigation of complementary therapies like yoga valuable. The authors clearly state their objective to conduct a literature review on the efficacy of yoga therapy in this specific patient population, utilizing a narrative literature review design. This objective is clear and directly relevant to clinical practice and patient well-being. The review synthesizes findings from seven selected articles, concluding that yoga can serve as an effective intervention for patients with schizophrenia. Specifically, the abstract highlights yoga's benefits in reducing both positive and negative symptoms, including hallucinations, alongside improvements in overall well-being. Furthermore, the review suggests that yoga can mitigate depressive symptoms and enhance cognitive and social functioning, such as emotional recognition and social skills. These reported outcomes underscore the potential multifaceted advantages of integrating yoga into a comprehensive care plan for individuals suffering from schizophrenia, offering a promising non-pharmacological approach to symptom management and functional improvement. While the review provides an encouraging overview of yoga's potential, certain aspects warrant consideration for future research. The methodology, described as a narrative literature review, inherently lacks the systematic rigor of a full systematic review or meta-analysis, which could introduce potential biases in article selection or synthesis, despite the mention of PRISMA for initial screening. The relatively small number of analyzed journals (seven) further limits the comprehensiveness and generalizability of the findings, suggesting that the positive conclusion is drawn from a comparatively limited evidence base. Future research would benefit from a more expansive and systematic approach, ideally including a meta-analysis, to provide a more robust understanding of effect sizes, optimal yoga modalities, and long-term outcomes across diverse patient populations. Despite these limitations, the paper serves as a valuable preliminary exploration, highlighting a promising avenue for further investigation in psychiatric care.
