Abstract

A tanulmány nyelvi és tudománytörténeti adatok alapján követi nyomon néhány szilárd gyógyszerforma, a pilula, a tabletta és a kapszula elnevezéseinek eredetét és jelentésfejlődését. A vizsgált gyógyszerformák története az orvosságok bevételének megkönnyítését és az adagolás pontosságának biztosítását célzó törekvéseket tükrözi. A középkori cukor-méz gyógyszerészet és a kora újkor gyógyszerformáinak az elnevezései többnyire a készítmények alakjára utaltak, és mivel egyazon kifejezés többféle készítményt is jelölhetett, azonosításuk és megkülönböztetésük gyakran nehézségekbe ütközik. A korszerű tabletták és kapszulák elterjedésével a régi gyógyszerformák háttérbe szorultak, elnevezéseik részben eltűntek, részben jelentésváltozáson, jelentésbővülésen vagy -szűkülésen mentek keresztül. Számos, a korabeli gyógyszerkészítéssel vagy -alkalmazással kapcsolatos kifejezés csak állandósult szókapcsolatokban, szólásokban maradt fenn. Néhány egykori patikaszer elnevezése cukrászati termékek, édességek nevében él tovább.
