Abstract

Review

This study presents a focused investigation into the practicality of the "Griya Ilmu" learning media for teaching fable texts to seventh-grade students. The primary objective was to develop and then assess the usability of this media, specifically at State Junior High School 4 Bintan. Employing the 4-D development model, the research meticulously evaluated the media's practicality through trials with both a small group of 5 students and a larger group of 30 students. The abstract clearly highlights the key finding: the Griya Ilmu media was overwhelmingly perceived as "very practical" by both student groups, with high average percentages of 97.20% and 95.29% respectively, strongly supporting its potential for use in the learning process. The methodology utilized a robust approach by combining qualitative data (interviews, observations, comments, suggestions) and quantitative data (scores from practicality questionnaires), which strengthens the validity of the practicality assessment. The use of two distinct student groups (small and large) for testing further enhances the reliability of the findings regarding student perception. While the 4-D model is mentioned, the abstract predominantly details the "develop" and "disseminate/define" (implied by the trials) stages, with less explicit detail on the initial "define" and "design" phases, which typically underpin the media's creation. However, for a study specifically focused on practicality, the comprehensive testing phase is highly appropriate and well-executed. Overall, this research makes a valuable contribution by demonstrating the high practicality of a newly developed learning media, "Griya Ilmu," for fable text instruction. The findings provide a strong foundation for its adoption in the classroom. For future work, it would be beneficial to build upon this robust practicality assessment by investigating the media's effectiveness on student learning outcomes, engagement, or critical thinking skills related to fables. Exploring teacher perceptions regarding its implementation ease and pedagogical benefits would also offer a more holistic understanding of its utility. Nevertheless, this study successfully achieves its stated goal of establishing the practical viability of the Griya Ilmu media.
