Palliative care for patients with terminal chronic diseases is currently undergoing a significant transition from hospital settings to home-based care. The primary issue emerging from this shift is the high level of caregiver burden, which adversely impacts the quality of care and the psychological well-being of families due to a lack of clinical competence and adequate community support systems. This study aims to review family empowerment strategies as practical solutions to enhance caregiver independence in providing palliative care. The method employed is a systematic literature review of ten primary research articles from reputable international databases (Scopus) published between 2021 and 2026. The analysis was conducted by synthesizing various empowerment interventions, including the use of digital technology and structured psychoeducation. The results of the review indicate that the implementation of technology-based empowerment methods (tele-palliative) and the integration of artificial intelligence have been proven to significantly increase family self-efficacy in pain symptom management and reduce caregiver anxiety levels by up to 40%. Furthermore, early education regarding resilience and bereavement support strengthens the family's ability to make appropriate clinical decisions. In conclusion, family empowerment through the collaboration of technology and professional assistance is a crucial strategy to ensure the sustainability and quality of life of palliative patients in the home environment.
This literature review, "Intervensi Keperawatan Keluarga Berbasis Tele-Health untuk Mengatasi Caregiver Burden pada Perawatan Paliatif," addresses a critical and timely issue in healthcare: the burgeoning challenge of caregiver burden in home-based palliative care. With the increasing transition of palliative services from hospitals to home settings, the study rightly identifies the escalating pressure on family caregivers due to perceived lack of clinical competence and insufficient community support, which detrimentally impacts both the quality of care and the psychological well-being of families. The review’s stated aim to explore family empowerment strategies as practical solutions to bolster caregiver independence is therefore highly relevant and necessary. The methodology employed is a systematic literature review, synthesizing findings from ten primary research articles sourced from Scopus, published between 2021 and 2026. This focused approach on recent publications ensures the review reflects contemporary evidence and emerging practices. The analysis specifically investigates empowerment interventions, including the integration of digital technology and structured psychoeducation. Key findings highlight the significant efficacy of technology-based empowerment methods, such as tele-palliative care and artificial intelligence integration, in enhancing family self-efficacy for pain symptom management and notably reducing caregiver anxiety levels by up to 40%. Furthermore, the review underscores the value of early education on resilience and bereavement support in strengthening families' capacity for informed clinical decision-making. In conclusion, this review provides compelling evidence for the transformative potential of combining technological advancements with professional assistance in empowering family caregivers. The identified strategies offer robust solutions to mitigate caregiver burden, thereby ensuring the sustainability and quality of life for palliative patients receiving care in their home environments. While the review is concise, its focus on practical, evidence-based interventions makes a valuable contribution to palliative nursing practice and policy development. Future research could further explore the specific components of effective tele-health interventions and their long-term impact across diverse cultural contexts, building upon the strong foundation laid by this timely and pertinent study.
