The study titled "Hubungan Kriteria CT-Value Terhadap Manifestasi Neurologi Pada Pasien COVID-19 Di RSUD Drs. H. Amri Tambunan Kabupaten Deli Serdang" investigates a pertinent area within COVID-19 research: the potential link between SARS-CoV-2 viral load, as indicated by RT-PCR cycle threshold (CT) values, and the development of neurological manifestations. Given the widespread and varied clinical presentations of COVID-19, including its impact on the nervous system, understanding factors that might predict or correlate with these complications is crucial for patient management and prognostication. The primary objective of this research was to determine if such a relationship exists among patients at a specific hospital in Deli Serdang during 2021. Employing an observational analytical cross-sectional design, the researchers utilized secondary data from the medical records of 258 COVID-19 patients at RSUD Drs. H. Amri Tambunan between January and December 2021. The methodology involved univariate analysis and Spearman correlation testing to assess the relationship between CT values and neurological manifestations. The key finding from this analysis was a P-value of 0.910, which is significantly greater than 0.05, indicating no statistically significant relationship between CT value criteria and neurological manifestations. Furthermore, the correlation strength between the two variables was reported as 0.007, signifying a very weak correlation. While the study concludes that there is no significant relationship and a very weak correlation, it is important to consider the limitations inherent in its design. The cross-sectional nature of the study, relying on secondary data, restricts the ability to establish temporality or causality; neurological symptoms might manifest at a different time point than the CT value measurement in the medical record, or be influenced by other unmeasured factors. The abstract does not specify the details of neurological manifestation assessment (e.g., types, severity, onset relative to positive test). Future research would benefit from a longitudinal study design, collecting primary data with detailed, standardized neurological assessments, considering potential confounders such as specific viral variants, patient comorbidities, vaccination status, and the timing of CT value measurement in relation to symptom onset. A broader multi-center study would also enhance the generalizability of the findings beyond the single institution.
