Abstract: Human Rights and Systematic Theology are two things that have a relationship because both of these fields are made and compiled by humans who are similar creations and in the image of God. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to examine human rights within the framework of Systematic Theology to create a significant discourse for human rights amid secularization that emphasizes humans without the intervention of the Sovereign God. The research approach is qualitative using the content analysis method where the researcher analyzes human rights historically and Systematic Theology analytically and theoretically. The result of the research in this paper is that systematic theology is a source of human rights knowledge because it explains the work of God as the Creator of human beings, and human actions that must have theological value, glorify God, and present the communion of love to enjoy God in human life. The conclusion is that human rights need to emphasize theological values and not secular values for human survival. This article provides the novelty that systematic theology is relevant for human rights and human rights must be reviewed based on systematic theology specifically through the doctrine of man and sin.
This article, "Hak Asasi Manusia dalam Perspektif Teologi Sistematika" (Human Rights in the Perspective of Systematic Theology), proposes an intriguing and timely exploration into the foundational relationship between human rights and systematic theology. The authors assert that both fields, as human constructs, are inherently connected through humanity's creation in the image of God. The primary objective is to develop a significant discourse for human rights within a theological framework, particularly as a counterpoint to contemporary secularization that often divorces human existence from divine intervention. Employing a qualitative research approach, the study utilizes content analysis, examining human rights historically and systematic theology analytically and theoretically. The core finding presented is that systematic theology serves as a crucial source of knowledge for human rights. This is posited because it elucidates God's creative work, emphasizing humanity's divine origin, and consequently, the theological imperative embedded in human actions. These actions, the abstract argues, must inherently glorify God and foster a communion of love, allowing humans to experience God within their lives. A central conclusion is the necessity for human rights to prioritize theological values over secular ones for sustained human flourishing. The article asserts novelty by demonstrating the direct relevance of systematic theology to human rights, advocating for a re-evaluation of human rights specifically through the theological doctrines of humanity and sin. The article makes a valuable contribution by engaging with a critical interdisciplinary dialogue, offering a distinct theological perspective on human rights amidst increasing secular discourses. Its strength lies in explicitly linking the ontological basis of human existence, as understood in systematic theology, to the ethical demands of human rights. This approach promises to provide a robust counter-narrative and a firm theological grounding for human dignity and worth. For the full paper, a rigorous demonstration of *how* specific doctrines—particularly those of humanity and sin—directly inform and potentially strengthen the understanding and advocacy of human rights, especially compared to secular justifications, would be essential to fully realize the implications of its stated novelty. This paper has the potential to stimulate vital discussions in both theological ethics and human rights theory.
