Program Merdeka Belajar – Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) dirancang untuk menyiapkan mahasiswa yang mampu merancang strategi guna mendapat gambaran masa depan yang jelas. Namun, tantangan serta kewajiban yang harus dipenuhi oleh peserta MBKM setelah menyelesaikan program tersebut berpotensi menimbulkan fear of failure. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara future time perspective dengan fear of failure pada peserta MBKM. Teknik penentuan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling. Pada penelitian ini didapatkan 108 responden. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan r=-261 dan p=0.006 (p<0.05). Arah hubungan yang negatif ini berarti semakin tinggi tingkat future time perspective peserta MBKM, maka akan semakin rendah tingkat fear of failure yang ada. Hal ini disebabkan karena mahasiswa yang memiliki tingkat future time perspective yang tinggi mampu membuat rencana untuk keadaan darurat, menemukan strategi terbaik dalam mencapai sesuatu, serta memusatkan perhatian pada langkah yang harus diambil dalam mencapai tujuan demi menghindari kegagalan. Oleh karena itu, penting bagi instansi mitra serta kampus untuk melakukan pendampingan pada peserta MBKM guna menurunkan fear of failure.
This study investigates the compelling relationship between future time perspective (FTP) and fear of failure (FOF) among participants of the Merdeka Belajar – Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program. The research addresses a highly relevant and timely topic, as the MBKM program aims to equip students with future-oriented skills, yet concurrently presents challenges that could foster anxieties about failure. The clear objective of establishing this correlational link is well-articulated, highlighting the practical significance of understanding how students' outlook on the future can mitigate or exacerbate their fear of not succeeding in a demanding academic and professional initiative. The premise that a clearer future perspective can buffer against failure-related anxieties is a valuable hypothesis worth exploring. The methodology employed a correlational study design, utilizing purposive sampling to recruit 108 MBKM participants. The findings present a statistically significant negative correlation (r=-0.261, p=0.006) between future time perspective and fear of failure. This result indicates that as participants' future time perspective strengthens, their fear of failure tends to decrease. The abstract provides a plausible explanation for this, suggesting that individuals with a high FTP are better equipped to strategize, plan for contingencies, and focus on actionable steps, thereby proactively avoiding or managing potential failures. This interpretation is coherent and aligns with existing psychological literature on goal-setting and self-regulation. The implications of this study are significant, particularly for institutions involved in the MBKM program. The finding underscores the importance of fostering a robust future time perspective among students, suggesting that interventions aimed at enhancing planning skills, goal clarity, and adaptive strategies could effectively reduce fear of failure. The recommendation for partner institutions and campuses to provide guidance and support ("pendampingan") to MBKM participants is a practical and direct consequence of the research. While the correlational nature of the study prevents causal claims, it provides a strong empirical basis for developing targeted psychological support programs. Future research could explore the specific facets of future time perspective that are most impactful, and investigate the effectiveness of various interventions in a longitudinal design.
