Abstract

Review

The paper "DESAIN SENSORI VISUAL PADA TAMAN BERMAIN ANAK DI SLEMAN, YOGYAKARTA" addresses a critical aspect of early childhood development: the role of visual sensory design in children's playgrounds. The authors rightly emphasize that play spaces are vital for supporting cognitive development in children aged 0-6 years through sensory engagement. The primary objective of this research was to investigate the extent to which visual sensory design in playgrounds influences the preferences of young children for specific play zones within the Sleman, Yogyakarta context. Utilizing a quantitative methodology, the study aimed to establish relationships between design elements and children's play preferences. While the abstract does not elaborate on the specific instruments or sample size, the reported findings offer clear insights. The research indicates that children exhibit a distinct preference for play zones characterized by bright colors, contoured topography, abundant natural lighting, designs that represent nature, and a diverse range of play equipment. These results align with broader principles of child-friendly design, highlighting elements known to stimulate engagement and exploration. The findings of this study provide valuable guidance for urban planners, landscape architects, and playground designers in creating more effective and developmentally stimulating environments for young children. By incorporating bright colors, varied terrain, natural light, nature-inspired motifs, and diverse play options, designers can enhance children's engagement and support their cognitive growth. Future research could expand upon these findings by exploring the specific mechanisms through which these visual elements influence children's play behavior, perhaps through observational studies or by examining the interplay between visual and other sensory inputs. Additionally, investigating the cultural or regional specificities of these preferences would add further depth to the understanding of optimal playground design.
