Abstract

In the era of digital transformation and generational diversity in the workplace, reverse mentoring has become an important strategy in human resource management. This study aims to analyze the trends and development of research related to reverse mentoring globally using a bibliometric approach. Data was obtained from Google scholar with the keyword "reverse mentoring" and analyzed using the VOSviewer application to visualize the relationship between research elements. The analysis showed a significant increase in the number of publications since 2010, with the research focus shifting from general mentoring relationships towards professional development and leadership in the workplace. Key findings reveal that reverse mentoring and mentoring in general accelerate technology adoption, increase innovation, and strengthen cross-generational relationships within organizations. This study provides comprehensive insights into the contributions, dominant trends, and potential future research directions in the field of reverse mentoring.

Review

The submitted work, "Bibliometric Analysis of Reverse Mentoring: A Global Perspective on Research Trends and Developments," tackles a highly relevant and timely subject, considering the ongoing digital transformation and growing generational diversity in modern workplaces. The study appropriately frames reverse mentoring as an increasingly important strategy within human resource management. The authors' objective to conduct a global bibliometric analysis of research trends and developments in this area is commendable, aiming to visualize relationships between research elements using VOSviewer. The abstract highlights key findings, including a significant increase in publications since 2010, a noticeable shift in research focus towards professional development and leadership, and the crucial role of reverse mentoring in accelerating technology adoption, fostering innovation, and strengthening cross-generational relationships. However, a significant methodological concern stems from the abstract's description of data acquisition. The exclusive reliance on "Google Scholar" for data collection, while offering broad coverage, introduces limitations regarding data reliability, replicability, and the overall robustness of the bibliometric analysis. Unlike more curated and academically indexed databases such as Web of Science or Scopus, Google Scholar often includes a wider range of grey literature, may lack consistent citation tracking, and does not provide the sophisticated filtering capabilities essential for rigorous and transparent bibliometric studies. This choice of data source could potentially impact the quality, representativeness, and reproducibility of the dataset, thereby affecting the validity of the reported trends and developments. Despite this methodological reservation, the study's potential to offer valuable and comprehensive insights into the evolving landscape of reverse mentoring research remains significant. The topic's importance for human resource management, organizational development, and understanding intergenerational dynamics in the modern era cannot be overstated. For future iterations or subsequent research in this domain, it is strongly recommended that the authors consider utilizing more structured and academically robust databases for data collection. This refinement would substantially enhance the rigor, credibility, and analytical depth of their bibliometric findings, ultimately solidifying the study's valuable contributions to identifying dominant trends and proposing future research directions in this critical and dynamic field.
