Review

This study offers a timely and relevant analysis of Go Picnic Bintan Tour & Travel's business model, employing the well-established Business Model Canvas (BMC) framework to formulate adaptive strategies. The research design, a qualitative single-case study utilizing semi-structured in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation with key informants, demonstrates a robust methodological approach suitable for a deep dive into an organization's operational intricacies. The abstract clearly articulates the study's objectives, which include identifying influencing factors and proposing an adaptive model, thereby setting a clear scope for the investigation. This foundational work provides a valuable snapshot of a local tourism operator's challenges and opportunities within the dynamic Bintan tourism landscape. The findings presented are insightful, particularly the revelation of a B2B segment dominance (70% revenue) and a value proposition rooted in flexibility, responsiveness, and local expertise. The identification of critical influencing factors such as digitalization, network strength, human resource limitations, and industry dynamics further enriches the understanding of the operational context. The proposed adaptive strategies, advocating for structured digital marketing, clearer service differentiation, and strengthened long-term partnerships, appear well-aligned with the identified challenges and aim to enhance resilience without disrupting core operations. This contributes significantly to practical management knowledge for small to medium-sized tour operators navigating similar regional markets. While the study provides a strong foundation for strategic adaptation, future research or a more detailed discussion within the full paper could enhance its impact. For instance, elaborating on the specific metrics or benchmarks for measuring the success of the proposed digital marketing integration and partnership strengthening would be beneficial. Additionally, given the inherent limitations of a single-case study, a brief discussion on the potential transferability of these adaptive strategies to other similar businesses in the region, perhaps with varying resource levels or market compositions, would add broader academic value. Nevertheless, this paper makes a commendable contribution by offering a practical, data-driven approach to strategic planning in the tourism sector, underscoring the importance of continuous adaptation.
