This paper addresses a highly pertinent and contemporary issue: the role of the digital era and social media in the protection and denunciation of offenses against cultural heritage. The core objective is to illustrate how social media platforms act as instruments for safeguarding cultural patrimony, a topic of increasing importance given the rapid pace of digital communication. The authors propose to achieve this through conceptual explanation and practical examples, notably focusing on the case of "Barnaldo Lucrecia" in São Paulo, whose descharacterization generated significant online discourse. This approach promises a relevant contribution to the intersection of cultural studies, digital communication, and heritage preservation. A significant strength of this research lies in its timely exploration of the active role of digital media, particularly social networks like Twitter, in cultural heritage defense. The selection of the "Barnaldo Lucrecia" case study is particularly effective, providing a concrete and relatable example of how public outcry and discussion on social media can amplify awareness regarding heritage violations. This practical illustration moves beyond mere theoretical discourse, demonstrating the tangible impact of digital denunciation. The methodology, encompassing a review of relevant literature, digital press, and social media, is well-suited to capturing the dynamic and contemporary nature of the phenomenon under investigation, underscoring the vast information flow available today and its potential for civic engagement. While the paper effectively demonstrates the *potential* of social media as an instrument for denunciation and protection, future iterations or deeper analyses could benefit from exploring the *efficacy* and *long-term impact* of such digital activism. Moving beyond the observation that social media "can use this artifice," the work could delve into the mechanisms by which digital denunciation translates into tangible protection or policy change, rather than merely initiating discussion. Furthermore, an examination of potential challenges inherent to digital platforms, such as the spread of misinformation, the legal implications of public denunciation, or the sustainability of online engagement, would enrich the discussion. Considering a broader range of social media platforms and their unique dynamics could also offer a more comprehensive understanding of this multifaceted phenomenon.
